Information

The Blue Parakeet

How then do we read the Bible? How do we go about “picking and choosing” which parts to live out? Should women be leaders in the church? These questions and more are tackled in the book, The Blue Parakeet: Rethinking How You Read the Bible.

Details and information:

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the Bible? Confused? Ever wonder why so many people come to such different understandings of the same texts? As we read through The Blue Parakeet together, we will discover a “method” (if that's even the right word) of reading the Bible that will help make sense of what we find.

This study could prove invaluable to you as a follower of Jesus – for if we better understand the Scriptures that tell us of Jesus, we should be in a better place from which to follow him.

I hope you will join us for this ten week study of The Blue Parakeet. Allow yourself to be challenged to rethink the way you read and understand the Bible.

An online learning experience can be both powerful and meaningful, but ultimately can only be what you choose to make it. Please review the following and make a commitment to contribute to this experience so we all can be encouraged as we learn from one another and grow:

1. Get a copy of our text, The Blue Parakeet: Rethinking How You Read the Bible by Scot McKinght. I know Amazon has them, at last check, for about $13. (There is also a Kindle version available.)

2. Be sure that you have updated your profile :: include an image and additional information so we can become more connected to one another in this virtual environment,

3. Log into this group at least once a week to read others' comments and post your own,

4. Be sure to complete the readings each week and share your thoughts in response to the questions posted (reading assignments will be posted by Sunday of each week), and

5. Respond to one anothers postings (ask questions for clarification, share your thoughts on others insights, recommend other resources, etc).

Remember, this experience will only be what we collectively make it. Your input is important to the ongoing dialog. This is an organic learning opportunity. Who knows where the Spirit might lead us as we share and grow together!

This online learning experience allows us to ‘meet’ even when some group members are out of town. It also allows everyone to consider the readings, ponder others' insights and respond with our own in our own time. Please help make this experience meaningful for everyone by contributing regularly.
